Martha on Oprah

Martha was on Oprah yesterday. It’s not often that you get to see Martha interviewed, so I was anxious to watch. Oprah had a lot of questions about prison. And that’s about it. It seemed like such an interesting opportunity – the two women who have made some of the biggest changes in how we think about our lives together, chatting. I would have loved some talk about how Martha built her empire, if she ever dreamed it would be so big, what she thinks about public perception of her, what it’s like to be so dang rich and powerful, and so much more. The prison talk was interesting of course – any time you get to hear Martha reflect on things and give real (meaning not pre-packaged) answers to questions, I am interested. I enjoyed the video of her Maine home, but I’ve seen most of it before, so there wasn’t a lot that was new there.

The grilled cheese recipes are from Everyday Food this month I think. I still can’t fold a fitted sheet. And I didn’t quite understand the instructions. Having a swap out was cheating – I really wanted to see her do it and I don’t feel like I did. The crafting was a chance for her to hawk her products.

So I enjoyed the show but was hoping for just a little more of an in depth interview.

Did anyone else catch it?

I agree with you, that’s too bad that she was fixated on prison! BTW that’s where I learned to fold fitted sheets, from Martha I think it was from her show, not a magazine.

  2. We use her towel trick all the time. Mum saw that on Oprah when Martha was on years ago. I watched some of the interview online, but it was okay. A bit of a plug I thought.

Agreed. I did learn to fold towels well from her I have to say. It was one of the first posts I did when I started this blog actually, about how I redid my linen closet on her advice.

I wish you could show me! I just can’t grasp it! It’s like she does a magic trick and I just can’t catch it.

  6. I turned it off when I saw it was going to be all about prison. Old news, wasn’t it? I wanted to know more about building her empire as well.

  7. marthaandme says:

I think that was the thing Oprah was most interested in. After all, building an empire is no news to Oprah so maybe she would not think to ask about any of that.

I agree with your assessment of the show – I was expecting a lot more. The cocktails were more interesting than the grilled cheese demonstration. She definitely was advertising her products duringthe crafts segment and they even had Oprah mentioning Michael’s.

  9. marthaandme says:

I fast forwarded through the cocktails since I don’t drink so I didn’t see that part!

I didn’t watch the show, but a friend told me she heard Martha say in an interview that one thing she wants more of in her life is travel. maybe that was in this show? if so, an interesting thought.

  11. marthaandme says:

I didn’t see that part if it was. She does travel a lot and just did several episodes of her show about her recent trips.

  12. Sheryl says:

I didn’t catch the show. Too bad she was not asked more interesting questions, although I suspect a prison story is more compelling to many than a business story.

Maybe. I just feel so tired of hearing about Martha in prison. It just seems there are so many other things to talk about also.
