Have You Tried…Tomato Paste Tubes

This is one of things where I find myself asking “what took them so long?” My fridge has long been a wasteland of tomato paste cans with one tablespoon scooped out, the rest left to die. I never use an entire can and it seems every time I need some, I have to open a new can since the old one has become an alien life form. These great new squeeze tubes let you use just as much as you want without creating waste. I paid $2.99 for a tube. And they contain only tomato paste and salt – no nasty preservatives! Love ’em.

Actually a friend gave me a tube at least 3 years ago. It is so convenient and just nice to have on hand. A little squirt just adds a deeper dimension to soups and stews.

Where in the grocery store did you find this? I am looking forward to not wasting so much tomato paste!

  3. marthaandme says:

It was in the Italian section with the canned tomatoes and tomato paste. You can also buy it on Amazon.

  4. We have had this since I was a child, I wonder why it’s taken so long to hit the US. It makes me wonder what US products the UK are missing out on!

  5. marthaandme says:

That’s interesting Pru. The differences in products is really something. Going to a grocery store in London was quite an experience for us!

  6. Fascinating–we’ve had them in NY for at least a decade, maybe more. Honestly, I thought they were everywhere. This country is just too huge for me to comprehend sometimes.

  7. marthaandme says:

Yes, well things take a while to get to Buffalo!

  8. Margie says:

I bought a tube (different brand) at Whole Foods and the box said to refrigerate after opening and use within a week or so. At that rate it is cheaper for me to buy cans and toss what I can’t use.

  9. marthaandme says:

Well I agree with that – a week is not going to cut it!

  10. marthaandme says:

I just used mine last night and looked at the expiration date – it’s not until 2013. So maybe the tube you bought was just old?

  11. Margie says:

The problem wasn’t the expiration date. The wording on the package said to refrigerate after opening and use within a week. It may have been Whole Foods brand.
